The Director, Business Development will have primary responsibility for specific verticals targeted seller acquisition and business development activities of Marketplace. This is a high-impact position, requiring the ability to integrate sales function tightly into Marketplace operations and building a strong large merchant pipeline to support continued rapid growth. The Director will be responsible for translating SHC Vertical strategy into large merchant acquisition game plan and associated lead generation & conversion. This role will also be responsible strategic partnerships that help drive a differentiated strategy on the marketplace. This position will report to the DVP of Marketplace and responsibilities include:
1. Fully understand and take ownership of key verticals strategy in order to establish a target list of large merchants who will bring relevant, in-demand inventory, rich catalog and retail like standards to the marketplace. Work closely with OBU and category leaders to vet the target list
2. Generate new opportunities by leveraging existing relationships or cold-calling on merchant, maximize opportunities generated through lead qualification process and establish a strong pipeline
3. Develop marketplace salespitch and unique selling proposition to sellers by having a complete understanding of all the strategic thrusts of SHC (SYW, Integrated retail, Loyalty etc.)
4. Work closely with Sales operations team to set appropriate metrics for sales funnel management. Also provide input from the field to help sales operations team develop various business models and deal structures that will improve large merchant acquisition win rate
5. Monitor customer, market, and competitor intelligence and incorporate feedback into sales strategy
6. Provide detailed and accurate sales forecasts
7. Provide feedback from the field (partners, merchants etc.) appropriately to help improve product, seller & member experience

Job Requirements

Experience Needed:

• 5-7 years of proven enterprise sales experience.

• 5-7 years of work experience, preferably in an ecommerce / Hi-tech environment

• Extensive track record influencing change within large, complex organizations

Education Needed:

• Bachelor's degree is required

• MBA is preferred

• Ability to work well independently and on a team

• Deep understanding of the marketplace

• Robust experience managing Seller relationships

• Strong Interpersonal skills, highly motivated, strong orientation toward relationship building

• Persuasive negotiation skills to ensure Seller needs are well balanced internally and externally

• Excellent communication skills to translate complex concepts into concise yet informative messaging for sellers

• Ability to handle pressure, juggle multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and work well with a diverse customer base and various internal teams
