Director, Business Controller

Under the direction of the VP/GM, the Director, Business Controller, plans, organizes, directs, and controls the accounting and related functions of the company, reports operational financial results, and oversees systems processes/records/policies necessary to comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the informational needs of management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Directs day to day operations of all accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, and payroll areas and will supervise accountants and managers for such operational areas. Such supervision will include reviewing daily transactions processing, journal entries, establishing individual goals and conducting individual reviews.
  • Compares performance with operating plans and standards. Provides reports and interprets the results of operations to all levels of management. This includes the formulation of accounting policies, the preparation of financial statements and operating data, the coordination of systems and procedures, and special reports as required.
  • Assures protection for the assets of the business through internal controls, internal auditing, and ensuring proper record retention and schedules necessary to support related entries.
  • Provides internal and external company units with related information required by them to carry out their assigned responsibilities.
  • Keeps the SHC and SHIP SLT members informed of the division’s performance and provides advice on all financial matters including trends and variances to plans and forecasts.
  • Executes cash disbursements for payment of corporate and divisional expenditures in accordance with disbursement policies.
  • Monitors inventory levels and advises management regarding variances to establish standards.
  • Develops and presents to SHC and SHIP SLT members matters relating to the adequacy of liability reserves and any adjustments necessary to comply with such requirements as indicated by supporting analysis and schedules.
  • Manages offshore relationship with third party transaction processor.
  • Assumes other special activities and responsibilities as required.
  • Ultimately responsible for monthly and year-end financial statements and supporting the preparation of annual budgets and operating plans.

Job Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Education/Training:
  • B.S. degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA LICENSE IN ACTIVE STATUS REQUIRED.
Experience:
  • A minimum of eight (8) years' experience ideally gained through increasingly responsible management positions within Finance and Accounting.
  • A minimum of two (2) years' recent experience as a Controller with responsibility for accounts, budgeting, cost accounting, and finance. Preferably annual sales of $300 million to $400 million.
  • Strong understanding of data base functionality and query skills and advanced knowledge of Excel and Access.
  • Working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems, well-developed financial analysis capabilities, and demonstrated ability to manage microcomputer operations and applications.
  • Sound administrative skills. Well-developed management skills–principles and people.
  • Proven ability to recruit, train and motivate personnel in order to balance staffing strength with profitability and growth.
