The Assistant Category Manager assists the Category Manager in driving profitable sales growth by providing planning and execution excellence for their categories.

Job Requirements

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Partnership, Planning and Communication
  • Interprets category strategies to determine and execute optimal go-to-market actions.
  • Supports Category Manager in developing business plans.
  • Works with Vendor Direct vendors to execute, track and manage online assortment for profitable growth, including negotiating product costs, reviewing product hierarchies/taxonomy and developing marketing events.
  • Partners with vendors, Marketplace teams and store buying teams to analyze data and recommend assortment optimizations.
  • Partners with Sears & Kmart Store Buyers to leverage existing store assortment to drive online category sales/margin performance and execute shared marketing promotions/pricing to drive cohesive omni-channel experience.
  • Communicates category business plan needs for assortment and promotions across the organization (including Online Merchants, Store Buyers, Merch Ops, online product management, offshore and promotions teams) to ensure plans are implemented.
  • Understands the category assortment at a granular level, including items, online content and product flow, and is responsible to work across the organization to ensure their excellent execution.
  • May manage select sub categories under the direction of the Category Manager.
Analytics and Systems
  • Responsible for accurate, timely inputs and outputs using financial, online, promotional, product and other system tools.
  • Analyzes appropriate internal, external, and consumer data to ensure business plans are implemented to meet plan and are in accordance with schedule.
  • Executes promotional strategy using multiple tools and communications.
  • Conducts financial and KPI analysis to test and measure results.
  • Identifies and updates assortment and product information.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years of experience in merchandising or merchandise planning or equivalent
  • Solid understanding of the buying process including analysis, buying, trends, taste levels, and rapid response
  • Strong negotiation skills to gain alignment on actions that positively affect bottom-line results
  • Strong listening, interpersonal and communication skills for sending and receiving clear upward, downward, and horizontal messages
  • Ability to analyze financial and business information to communicate and improve business results
  • Ability to work well with others as a team player.
  • Proficiency in the use of desktop applications, windows-based programs including excel and enterprise applications, and cloud serviced support tools.
  • Retail math literacy and financial forecasting and/or trend analysis experience.
