The Senior Tax Analyst is responsible for assisting the Directors of Income Tax in the Federal and State Income Tax Sections. These sections work on income tax return compliance, financial statement reporting, and assist in tax controversy. The sections are responsible for preparing federal and state income tax returns, estimated tax projections, and financial statement income tax reporting. This position also assists in preparing responses to governmental inquiries for the controversy group.

Job Requirements

Responsibilities:


• Tax Return Compliance – Prepare federal and state income and franchise tax returns by identifying, researching and evaluating alternative tax positions in order to determine and implement a supportable, cost-effective filing position. Prepare the consolidation of SHC's federal income and state combined tax returns using CorpTax software. Assist in the timely and efficient administration of information assimilation and reporting and implementation of procedures that enhance the speed and efficiency of administration.


• Financial Reporting – Assist in the accurate preparation of income tax expense (both current and deferred) and income tax balance sheet accounts for both consolidated and separate financial statement purposes. Assist in evaluating tax reporting positions in order to determine appropriate levels of tax reserves to be maintained in the event of adverse tax determinations.


• Planning Activities – Team with reporting, special projects, and controversy groups in identifying and researching tax planning opportunities. Assist in implementing structural and non-structural tax planning strategies, which maximize savings on a defensible basis. Participate in the review of proposed transactions to properly advise management of tax consequences.


• Tax Audits and Controversies – Assist in responding to requests for information from state government officials to successfully defend tax filing positions and to negotiate a resolution of proposed deficiencies. Monitor legal developments and industry positions in order to accurately evaluate responses, filing positions, and prepare audit ready workpapers.


• Legislative Activities – Monitor industry positions relevant to SHC's business operations.


• Participate as an active team member in supporting above activities, including seeking professional training and career growth opportunities.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Works well as a team player
