This position handles highly complex legal matters and projects. Drafts high priority real estate legal documents and counsels business partners on real estate transactions, including leasing, subleasing, dispositions, acquisitions, redevelopments, licensed businesses and asset management. Represents the corporation in performing legal transactions. Provides guidance and training to real estate paralegals. A JD with at least 8 years of retail or commercial leasing experience required.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Draft and negotiate sophisticated lease agreements, lease amendments, letters of intent, REA documents, consent letters and other relevant real estate legal documents.
  • Review, analyze and effectively summarize lease provisions, REA documents and other real estate agreements.
  • Work closely with business clients throughout stages of transaction.
  • Identify and assess risk to the company, recommend course of action and develop solutions
  • Interface with business units and cross-functional teams within Sears
  • Supervise and interface with outside law firms and business units within Sears

Education Experience: Juris Doctorate Degree
Years of Related Experience: 8-15 years
Travel Requirements: On Occasion
Job Requirements:
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects.
  • A Juris Doctorate Degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to operate with limited supervision, counsel senior business clients, handle challenging negotiations, develop and manage process, and show good judgment.
  • Highly developed people management, analytical and conceptual skills
  • Ability to be effective at troubleshooting and improvising in unexpected situations and must assume full responsibility and take action without direction within appropriate area of responsibility
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are critical.
