The Retail Merchandise Planner develops the Retail Open to Buy, Seasonal Buys, and Assortment Plans on a seasonal, semi-annual, and annual basis. The Planner is responsible for aligning the merchandise plans by division, department and class, with the financial budget. The position is responsible for the planning and forecasting of sales, inventory, and receipts to coincide with the financial objectives of the company. The position is responsible for aiding in the achievement of financial goals and achievement of annual sales growth by product category.

The position works closely with buying teams on creating the assortment/buy plans based on historical information and trend analysis, setting benchmarks by product category as growth, maintain, or declining sales vehicles. Position works with allocation to ensure merchandise is delivered to the stores based on the top down product strategies and to maximize regional sales opportunities. The Retail Merchandise Planner also partners with the E-Commerce division to select the best assortment for the site to maximize sales.

Job Requirements

  • Retail OTB: Assist in the creation and maintenance of the Retail OTB. Partner with the Retail Store Operations and Finance work groups to tie all forecasting to company-wide goals and accountability.
  • Develop Plan, forecast at store level by month and product categories. Actively manage a portfolio of 100 stores.
  • At a Department/class level, collaborate with merchandising to ensure that financial objectives align with product opportunities.
  • Guide the merchandising team, utilizing historical data and current trends, to capitalize on new opportunities, and identify risks. Communicate opportunities and risks to key business partners including merchandising, finance, marketing, visual, and brand leaders.
  • Create seasonal buy strategies and assortment plans by product category and communicate/partner with the buying staff to appropriately project product potential and life cycle.
  • Communicate product strategies with allocation for appropriate placement of product line in stores.
  • Identify product consolidation and transfer opportunities based on product performance and intended life cycle.
  • Assist in running of weekly reports, analyze to identify trends, communicate chase opportunities to buying team and partner as necessary with production to ensure delivery dates.
  • Design and implement Retail Planning and Allocation Solution as a Business Matter Expert.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Planning & Forecasting strategies, methods and systems knowledge

  • Strong Microsoft Excel

Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

Experience:
  • 5-10 years retail experience with a mix of allocation, replenishment and planning
  • Buying experience a plus
  • Allocation and replenishment for retail chain
  • At least 3 years retail merchandise planning and forecasting
