The focus of work can be complex and diverse in nature and approach as it relates to the businesses that are supported, the systems used by the manager and/or team (or owned by the manager) and the processes managed within the team and/or coordinated other functions to support the business. Scope definition reflecting specific size / overall responsibility varies widely by each incumbent in this role (as well in Accounting Manager II and III roles) and is driven by the needs of the business partners being supported by the accounting team that is being managed. Position can support field units, districts/regions, support centers and SOAR businesses.

Job Requirements

• Provides leadership and cross training (possesses knowledge in all functional and technical aspects of the team; knows how major
transactions of the business are reflected in financial statements; develops/accomplishes strategies and activities within the team;
ensures the integrity and accuracy of work processes; takes ownership of accounting and process issues) for a Team/function
strategy.
• Ensures proper controls and reporting are in place (ensures the integrity and accuracy of all business unit account/management
reports; maintains required permanent company records and ensures balance sheet integrity; ensures processes have the
proper controls and verifications in place to protect business partner assets; ensures strong internal control is communicated and
implemented within the team; Provides information requested by management and auditors, both internal and external; develops
financial data used to make policy decisions, support transactions and maintain controls.
• Seeks out Process Improvement opportunities for improvement in revenue growth, internal control, and profitability (drives process
improvement and associate/BPO understanding of work processes within the team; continually analyzes processes and develops
improvements in cost efficiencies and data accuracy within assigned area and within the Accounting Center as a whole; identifies
ways to streamline and/or improve efficiency of future work)
• Works with corporate, businesses and other Accounting Center/BPO functions to seek out opportunities for improvement in
revenue growth and internal control in addition to developing recommendations and solutions to work processes.
• Leads, manages, and trains associates within the accounting team (local and BPO partner) to meet business objectives.
• Makes decisions and recommendations of a broad nature in accordance with general policy and guidelines; more difficult
decisions may be referred to higher levels for their opinion or recommendations.
• Work consists of moderately complicated procedures and tasks that require independent judgments such as setting task priorities,
evaluating results and coordinating with others. Work may be substantially complex and varied, requires the selection and
application of technical/detailed guidelines; strong analytic ability and independent judgment are needed to identify, test, select
and apply appropriate procedures or approaches.
• Provides explanation on technical matters to people with and without experience or knowledge of the area
• Occasional domestic travel to Hoffman Estates or other business locations; Occasional international travel to India to work with
BPO partner
• Performs supervisory functions, including but not limited to, making employment decisions regarding hiring, promoting, demoting
and terminating, conducting performance appraisals and coaching and developing associates.

BS degree or equivalent (Accounting, Finance; minimum 12 hours of accounting) 1-3 years senior accounting level experience within a large organization Experience in or exposure to retail store operations desired

• The following technical skills are preferred: Intermediate/Advanced Spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel desired) Intermediate/Advanced Databases (Microsoft Access desired) Large organization accounting software (PeopleSoft General Ledger preferred)
Basic Word Processing (Microsoft Word preferred)"
