The Manager, Environmental Sustainability, is responsible for the development of environmental sustainability strategy, metrics and business practices across the enterprise. This position provides leadership to the many distinct sustainability efforts taking place within various BUs across Transform. The Manager, Environmental Sustainability designs programs which support environmentally sustainable initiatives, ultimately impacting the member/customer experience, asset management, sales and profits positively.

Leads Transform’s environmental sustainability efforts by developing and implementing policies and initiatives that benefit the environment, engage associates and senior leadership, and drives enhanced corporate brand value. This position supports all Transform sales-based efforts related to initiatives developed by the operating business units while fully leveraging Federal, State and Local/Municipal utility residential incentive programs. The role maintains expanding relationships with a variety of stakeholders including business units, governmental agencies (EPA) members and associates.

Job Requirements

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads and drives development of Transform's sustainability strategy across the enterprise.
  • Partners with various business units including Environmental Affairs, Global Sourcing, Global Compliance, Facilities, Procurement, Legal and Energy to drive sustainability initiatives. Identifies and executes strategic growth opportunities with additional formats, including Sears Hometown and Outlets, Kenmore, Craftsman & DieHard, Innovel Solutions and others.
  • Works with Transform's business units to cultivate strong relationships with governmental or municipal administrators of individual energy rebate and incentive programs, including engaging other format leadership teams, if warranted, to share information on potential sales opportunities related to individual municipal, local, state and federal programs.
  • Leads the completion of annual award applications for leadership recognition in the industry, including the Energy Star Partner of the Year application.
  • Oversees and manages the development and release of the company's annual Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Report using the GRI framework
  • Calculates, oversees and manages the company's greenhouse gas accounting and associated KPIs
  • Identifies and acts upon opportunities for Transform to demonstrate industry leadership through effective partnerships.
  • Serves as the knowledge hub for industry trends, competitor activities and best practices to ensure Transform is proactively aware and aligned.
  • Advises ongoing sustainability communication planning targeted to all stakeholder groups.
  • Translates various business unit project activities into sustainability metrics & case studies to ensure alignment with sustainability strategy.
  • Develops program execution plans and analytics format to ensure successful implementation by retail outlets.
  • Develops and approves third-party signing packages and point-of-purchase material for online and stores, including the annual maintenance and updating of the Home Appliance Style Guide.
  • Develops and manages any internal Transform Intranet sites as well as partners with the Online Business Unit to influence any customer-facing product pages supporting messaging of individual programs.
  • Provides sales performance data to multiple stakeholders in order to evaluate related program success and lessons learned.
  • Leads development of process improvement tied to systems enhancements necessary to properly leverage programs at store level. (e.gs., point of sale changes and sales support systems integrations).
  • Solely responsible for developing sales, utilizing historical sales data and forecasting analytics in applicable categories to Home Appliance buyers in choosing which utility rebate programs to pursue based on the categories that will best drive sales and increased margin. This includes leveraging Transform's Member Analytics Platform and Teradata.
  • Grows utility rebate programs across the U.S. in designated region and ensures swift reimbursement of rebate dollars to the company. Explores industry trends and new technologies to improve customer/member experience and drive sales of energy efficient products.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS and EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sustainability, Master's preferred
  • GHG Certification
  • GRI Framework reporting experience in related field(s)
  • 5+ years program development experience
  • 5+ years sustainability industry experience
  • 2+ years retail industry experience preferred
  • Superior communication, presentation and influential skills
  • Proficient in MS Excel
  • Ability to effectively negotiate with internal and external business partners
  • Ability to facilitate cross-divisional buy-in and cooperation
  • Knowledge of corporate sustainability programs
  • Attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple projects at once
  • Knowledge of sustainability principles including carbon footprint development and Global Reporting Initiative
