7+ years Linux System administration and engineering experience. Candidates with DevOps, Python, AWS experience and/or certifications will be preferred. The DevOps Engineer will work within a small team of systems administrators to provide system support for Linux systems running a variety of software. Responsibilities include systems support and troubleshooting of software and network related issues, monitoring and managing applications, and coordination of issue identification and resolution. Team is responsible for maintaining the highest stability and best possible performance of an enterprise scale volume of Linux virtual and physical systems which provide the foundation for multiple, high traffic online retail websites.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in Computer Science), or 7+ years equivalent experience
  • Advanced knowledge of network protocols
  • Amazon Web Services engineering and architectural concepts (1+ years, certification a plus)
  • 3+ years of experience with DevOps practices and toolset (Python, Puppet, Ansible, Packer, Gitlab, Lambda, Terraform, Cloudformation, Dynamodb, API Gateway, Jenkins, CI/CD delivery models)
  • 2+ years of experience with containerization platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, OpenShift)
  • Solid understanding of API design principles
  • Experience with Azure or Google Cloud is a plus
  • DNS fundamentals, including diagnostics with Unix tools
  • CentOS or Red Hat Linux versions 6 and 7
  • Working knowledge of complex web hosting configuration components, including firewalls, load balancers, web and database servers
  • Well versed in Apache web server, VMware - ability to deploy, support, and diagnose real issues for a production environment
  • Competency in Python and basic web development (HTML, CSS, javascript, flask/Django)
  • Preferred Minimum Education: Bachelors Level Degree
  • Travel Requirements: On Occasion (Less than 5%)
  • Monitor and manage an enterprise scale fleet of systems to ensure highest stability, availability and customer experience
  • Proactively research and drive enhancements and fixes for hypervisor or system-level issues
  • Utilize third-party and custom monitoring tools to proactively identify problems with systems, applications, and networks and resolve them
  • Design and develop custom systems and application monitoring and management tools to support a real-time, proactive management model for the web sites
  • Coordinate with vendors, development, business partners and escalation support teams
  • Execute all aspects of site planned and unplanned maintenance activities
  • Develop timelines for problems that assist in root cause analysis
  • Handle analysis and resolution of break/fix occurrences
  • Complete development on major and minor enhancements to internal tools and processes
  • Understand impacts to system and enterprise support with the introduction of new functionality
  • Implement or oversee all upgrades, system patches, and changes
  • Handle problem resolution; track issues and changes
  • Handle execution of jobs and maintenance and/or delegate and oversee
  • Document timelines and details regarding shift work activities and incidents
  • Define and implement work efforts that improve process, monitoring, workflow.
  • Write/Execute/Update Standard Operating Procedures from simple to complex
  • Develop, follow and enforce processes needed to maintain operational stability, security and site reliability and protect the user experience
