Responsible for the management and optimization of Group Business Unit’s financial performance related pricing, promotions, product cost structure, Own Brand as well as select strategic initiatives that change the business model(s) of the GBU to optimize profitability and member service, partnering with all associate levels (especially senior leadership) across multiple functions throughout the GBU and corporation. This position is a key member of the GBU senior leadership team and assists the Finance Team in managing senior level corporate initiatives, creating complex financial models, developing business plans, improving internal controls and managing GBU expenses.
Job Responsibilities:
• Identifies profit optimization opportunities by analyzing business objectives and member needs; evaluating processes, pricing, promotions, product profitability, space utilization, vendors, supply-chain and building financial models; preparing materials for business case presentations to senior and executive management; providing recommendations (for example, improvements, changes, discontinuation of tactics) if financial performance is not meeting set targets; and recommending opportunity assessments and projected Profit and Loss (P&L) for new and ongoing programs.
• Improves margins via pricing and space allocation optimization. Oversees all pricing initiatives to improve margins and optimize long-term profitability through pricing that is item/market specific. Establishes pricing guidelines by category by store based upon competitive analyses and verification; Identifies opportunities to change space allocation / re-position of products presented within a category.
• Ensures promotions are optimized to achieve targeted ROI and member behavior. Works with BU Merchant leadership to plan promotional strategy, identify traffic driving/basket building promotional products, develop programs (space, products, timing, pricing, advertising/targeted SYW, funding support) in order to optimize profitability and member engagement; responsible for ensuring promotional displays are properly planned and forecasted to achieve targeted ROI; oversees the preparation and presentation of post-mortems analyzing financial results and member behavior to ensure incrementality.
• Creates financial models to ensure direct marketing pieces/circulars/digital campaigns are planned and forecasted to achieve financial targets, including return on marketing spend. Conducts post-mortems evaluating the results with recommendations are presented on a timely basis.
• Identifies opportunities to achieve improved margins related to the core assortment. Develops SOP and key KPIs for resets; ensures clear processes exist to evaluate impacts of resets but also identify opportunities for expanding/shrinking assortments. Provides input / analyses to teams performing resets as required.
• Provides recommendations to improve margin contribution from Own Brand; establishes targets for expansion into current OB products (By store, by category), identifies new OB products, ensures appropriate space strategy (given space to sales analyses) and works with merchants to establish promotional and pricing strategies. Also, works with teams to create Innovation and value through new Own Brand Products reviewing packaging for opportunities to improve sales as well as evaluating new sizes, new product lines, etc. for incremental margins.
• Oversees organizational cost stewardship activities; develops annual goals and measurements and manages the process to enable the GBU to achieve its annual goals; Leads the development and implementation of business model improvements, leading to increased operational performance, risk mitigation and improved financial performance.
• Works closely with merchant teams to improve the profitability of our vendor base including increasing allowance rates by establishing allowance programs as well as creating promotional programs that provide incremental funding.
• Provides oversight and direction for supporting the corporate project portfolio with a high level of comprehensive financial guidance/oversight from project proposal phase through to the benefit realization phase.
• Plays key role in development of trade strategy and support for both existing and new item launches by product line, channels and customers
• Creates the analytical framework to evaluate key program performance and results including level of spending and ROI against established KPIs.
• Works closely with GBU CFO and Finance Team to strengthen internal controls.
• Leads special projects and initiatives on an ad hoc basis as required.

Job Requirements

Skills and requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance and 10 years of experience in finance or related field
  • Strong problem solving ability; ability to synthesize large amounts of data into trends and initiate action; experience analyzing data to preform Root Cause Analysis, ROI, and Cost-Benefit Analysis.
  • Excellent collaboration skills; proven ability to work effectively with people at all levels
  • Strong organization and project management skills
  • Ability to develop analytical processes and continuous improvement methods
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • 5+ years' experience in advanced financial analysis, including modeling, forecasting, and trend analysis
  • Develops and leverages internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goals
  • Drives long-range financial planning, strategy, and performance
  • Influences, communicates, and drives the implementation of large complex finance projects
  • Ability to think analytically, apply analytical techniques and to provide in-depth analysis and recommendations to senior management using critical thinking and sound judgment.
  • Ability to plan, organize and lead the work of others with minimal supervision, while developing department goals and objectives consistent with corporate vision and strategies.
