The Transportation Manager monitors all aspects of the distribution center that affects quality of service and transportation expense.
The Manager is the primary liaison for all issues involving carrier activities at the distribution center, stores and vendors. The
Transportation Manager also communicate directly with corporate transportation on all transportation related issues requiring deviation
  • or alteration from any policies or guidelines established by the Company.

Job Requirements

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintains compliance with all federal, state and local transportation regulations.
  • Ensures customer service mandates are strictly adhered to by all carriers
  • Communicates with Corporate, Field and distribution center management on all transportation related issues.
  • Maintains and develops effective transportation cost control measures
  • Audits and approves all transportation related invoices
  • Ensures all carrier routings are in accordance to corporate guidelines
  • Trains and educates staff on latest transportation policy and operations
  • Monitors and adjusts delivery windows when necessary to maximize on time performance
  • Tracks inbound and outbound movement of all import containers
  • Performs supervisory functions, including but not limited to, making employment decisions regarding hiring, promoting, demoting and terminating, conducting performance appraisals and coaching and developing associates.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of computer systems, both personal computer and mainframe applications
  • Knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation regulations regarding transportation of freight and hazardous materials.
  • Understanding of contract carrier fleet operations and regulations specific to each carrier
  • Analytical ability necessary to gather and interpret data, and develop, recommend, implement solutions
  • Strong management leadership, communication, organization and administrative skills
  • Strong problem solving ability
  • Good negotiating skills
  • Ability to be flexible to work variable shifts
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• 5-10 years of related experience
• 18 years of age or older
